• DESIS NETWORK

    ABOUT US

DESIS is a no-profit and cultural association, with the purpose to promote design for social innovation in higher education institutions with design discipline so as to generate useful design knowledge and to create meaningful social changes in collaboration with other stakeholders.

  • DESIS NETWORK

    RESEARCH

DESIS Network’s most ambitious aim is to promote a broad and flexible design program. A design program where several local, regional and global projects may converge, reinforce each other and generate innovative scenarios and solutions.

    JOIN US

DESIS Labs are groups of academics, researchers and students who orient their design and research activities towards social innovation. They operate at the local scale with local partners and, in collaboration with other DESIS Labs, they actively participate in large-scale projects and programs.

PROJECTS

OF THE MONTH

Design for social innovation can find in the design schools a major driver for its application and diffusion. In fact, design schools can orient their didactic and research activities towards social innovation. They can become design laboratories where new visions are generated, new tools are defined and tested and where new projects are started and supported.

WE CAN PROMOTE YOUR PROJECT

Today, social innovation is generating a constellation of small initiatives. Every month we will update the Projects of the month section and your project could be featured! Don’t forget to keep updating your DESIS Lab page with your projects, so that we can see them and promote them.

DO RESEARCH WITH US

If a worldwide movement towards sustainability calls for the best possible use of all existing resources, design schools, with all their potential in terms of students’ enthusiasm and faculty experience, should be considered a very promising social resource: a potentially powerful promoter of sustainable change.

LETTUCE HOUSE

The project is applying green, healthy and low carbon lifestyle into real scenes and leading more people to concerning, understanding and participating in the sustainable lifestyle practice.

BURIAL SOCIETIES

For the poor and unemployed families who live in rural areas and have limited sources of income, it becomes a challenge to bury their beloved ones. In an effort to mitigate this challenge, families in rural areas form Burial Societies and contribute a small token every month.

COLTIVANDO

Bovisa neighbourhood is a former factory district that in the last 20 years passed through deep changes in the urban and social fabric. People living here from the 50s were used to grow their own food in the green allotments. When Politecnico campus set, people felt detached from this (public) space.

DESIS Labs are groups of academics, researchers and students who orient their design and research activities towards social innovation. They operate at the local scale with local partners and, in collaboration with other DESIS Labs, they actively participate in large-scale projects and programs.

YOU CAN BECOME A DESIS LAB

Members can be legally constituted higher education institutions or Universities with design disciplines, private or public. Each Member commits itself to establish and sustain a DESIS lab in its higher education institutions.

BECOME OUR PARTNER

Design for social innovation can find in the design schools a major driver for its application and diffusion. In fact, design schools (and, more in general, all the design-oriented universities) can orient their didactic and research activities towards social innovation.

DESIS Network main aim is to use design thinking and design knowledge to trigger, enable and scale-up social innovation. That is to enhance its potential by creating a more favorable environment (social, cultural, political, economic) and to raise its visibility by searching for promising initiatives and communicating their existence and significance to a larger audience.

WE CAN PROMOTE YOUR EVENT

Get in touch with us if you wish to have your event promoted on our website! Our events are regularly updated so keep an eye out if you would like to participate in any of them.

YOU CAN COLABORATE WITH US
