We’re excited to invite you to the next Conversations for the Planet event, scheduled for December 4th at 11:00 UTC.

This session, titled “DESIS as a pluriversal contact zone: a place where different worlds coexist”, brings together Aguinaldo dos Santos and Ezio Manzini to discuss design, social innovation, and the pluriverse, moderated by Ralitsa Debrah.

The conversation will focus on the evolving nature of design for social innovation. Born out of predominantly Western socio-cultural processes, it has since hybridized with diverse global cultures. Now is the time to examine it from perspectives outside the West, incorporating insights from the Global South. As DESIS Network, we aim to create a “pluriversal contact zone,” as Arturo Escobar describes—a space where different worlds meet, coexist, and learn from one another.

This event will start its journey in Brazil with the voice and experiences of Aguinaldo dos Santos, a professor at the Federal University of Paraná, who will discuss the notion of engagement, a cornerstone of design for social innovation.
